ATVing in HALIBURTON and GOODERHAM
The Haliburton Highlands is a unique part of Ontario. Its rugged Canadian Shield terrain is one of the most popular destinations in Ontario for all types of trail users. It started with logging, trapping and hunting, but even before Joseph-Armand Bombardier invented the first "personal" snowmobile in '59, parts of this remote wilderness were already a playground for Jeeps, and anything with 4 wheel drive. In fact, even before the Japanese learned how to manufacture copies of European motorcycles, the legendary "Canadian Corduroy Enduro" had already gained status as an international motorcycle competition thanks to the extraordinarily challenging terrain of this vast wilderness.
The sport of recreational ATVing is clearly the fastest growing outdoor recreational activity in the province of Ontario.
Once the Ontario government had recognized and facilitated the sport, Haliburton County was the first jurisdiction in the province to embrace ATVing as a tourism product by opening all its roads to ATVs. The county was already rich with some of the province’s most diverse Crown land trails, but thanks to the foresight of the local politicians, the region can now offer recreational ATVers the most complete and comprehensive ATV trail riding destination in the province of Ontario.
Haliburton County provides ATV access to the province’s southernmost massive Crown land network of ATV trails. It is these trails which provide ATVers the most varied, and arguably the most extreme, ATVing in the province of Ontario.
